Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

1. Digital Preservation Plan

TÜRKBİTİG Journal is committed to ensuring the permanent accessibility of all published scholarly articles in digital environments, even in the event that the journal suspends or ceases its publication activities. In line with this commitment, “multiple backup” and “centralized archiving” strategies are implemented to prevent data loss and ensure long-term preservation.

2. LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Integration

Our journal supports the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system, which is designed to ensure the secure preservation of open-access scholarly publications on a global scale. This system enables journal content to be replicated across a distributed archive shared among libraries, thereby guaranteeing content recovery and continued accessibility in the event of data loss. In addition, the journal benefits from dark archiving services through the CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) network, supporting the long-term preservation and sustainability of digital scholarly content.

3. DergiPlatformu and National Archiving

All published content of TÜRKBİTİG Journal is securely stored and archived within the DergiPlatformu academic publishing infrastructure. Furthermore, full-text article files and their associated metadata are regularly backed up on TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM servers and within national academic archiving systems. This integration constitutes an important safeguard that supports the long-term preservation of journal content and contributes to a sustainable national digital preservation framework.

4. DOI and Persistent Identifier Assurance

As of 2024, each published work is assigned a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier) through Crossref. The DOI system ensures the accessibility and citation continuity of scholarly articles through their permanent digital identifiers, regardless of any future changes to their web addresses. Consequently, the long-term discoverability, traceability, and academic visibility of published research are effectively supported.

5. Self-Archiving and Authors’ Rights

In accordance with the principles of open access and the dissemination of scholarly knowledge, the journal adopts the SHERPA/RoMEO “Blue” archiving policy. Under this policy, authors may archive the final published version of their articles (Publisher’s PDF) in institutional repositories, subject-based repositories, or personal websites without any embargo period. However, archived versions must include a clear and accurate citation to the original publication through its DOI link. This practice enhances the visibility and accessibility of research outputs while preserving publication integrity and the scholarly citation chain.

6. Physical and Digital Backup Procedures

Digital Backup: The journal management regularly backs up the entire database and all PDF files during each publication period and stores them in secure offline storage environments.

Physical Archiving: In accordance with applicable legal requirements, printed copies of the journal (where applicable) are submitted to relevant libraries and legal deposit institutions to ensure their long-term physical preservation.

7. Disaster Recovery

In the event of system failures, cyberattacks, hardware-related data losses, or other extraordinary circumstances, the “Data Recovery Plan” is immediately activated under the coordination of the Editor-in-Chief, the technical officer, and the system administrator. Within the scope of this plan, the most recent backup data are utilized to restore the turkbitigdergisi.com infrastructure and to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of manuscript submission, evaluation, and publication processes. Throughout the recovery process, priority is given to maintaining access to published articles, preserving active DOI links, and safeguarding the integrity of scholarly records. In this way, the continuity of access to the journal’s scientific content and the security of its digital publishing infrastructure are ensured.

8. Access Authorization

Access to the backup files of turkbitigdergisi.com is restricted exclusively to the Editor-in-Chief and the journal’s system administrator. All access and operational logs are retained in accordance with established security protocols.
